Saint-Gobain ADFORS joins Habitat for Humanity of Buffalo, NY in Day of Caring Event

(Grand Island, NY) – Saint-Gobain ADFORS recently participated in a Day of Caring event by helping to build two houses with Habitat for Humanity of Buffalo, NY.  ADFORS’ parent company, Saint-Gobain, is the world’s largest building materials manufacturer, so spending a day building houses was a perfect fit.

Saint-Gobain had a total of 22 participants from multiple local business units including ADFORS, CertainTeed and Norton Abrasives.  Employees helped with a variety of on-site projects which were based upon the experience and skill level of each individual.  Projects that the team took part in included; framing the second story on one house, drywall and plumbing prep and framing of the front porches on both houses.  All the volunteers enjoyed the time they were able to spend giving back to others.

On top of employees volunteering their time, Saint-Gobain businesses and their customers also donated products to be used in the new houses.  B&L Wholesale Supply (a local Buffalo company) helped greatly with the CertainTeed roofing materials donation, ADFORS donated windows to both homes, along with screens from their specialty screen product line, such as pet resistant, extra strength, clear advantage and pollen guard.   ADFORS also donated FibaTape Mold-X10 drywall tape and Novelio wall covering for use in the bathrooms.

Throughout 2015, Saint-Gobain has been celebrating their 350th anniversary.  To commemorate this achievement all of the local Saint-Gobain businesses came together to host a group celebration where Habitat for Humanity was the featured charity.  Before and during the event, the local businesses raised $1,100 which will be matched by Saint-Gobain through its gift matching program.

Saint-Gobain encourages each employee to participate in the Employee Volunteer Program (EVP) which provides them with up to 8 paid hours to spend volunteering in their community.  Additional Habitat for Humanity volunteer days have been scheduled to allow more employees the opportunity to participate this year.

About Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity Buffalo establishes partnerships within the community to give a helping hand to families who otherwise would be unable to achieve their dream of ownership of a simple decent house in a safe environment.  The Buffalo location was founded in 1985 and has provided home ownership for 999 people including 651 children.   Families are selected based on their level of need, willingness to work, acceptance of responsibilities and ability to repay mortgage. Families must complete 500 hours of sweat equity, which includes homeowner education classes. Habitat Buffalo is primarily financed by private donations from individuals, community groups, corporations, charities, foundations, schools, and religious organizations.
